US visa shake-up: No more ‘duration of status’; plans fixed stay limits for foreign students, exchange visitors

IndiaTimes Wednesday, 27 August 2025 ()
The United States Department of Homeland Security plans to change visa rules. The new rules impact students, exchange visitors, and foreign media representatives. Currently, these visa holders can stay indefinitely. The proposed change sets a maximum four-year stay for students and exchange visitors. Media representatives get a 240-day limit. Officials say this will reduce fraud and improve oversight.
