Google has no plans to launch Chinese search engine

Google doesn't plan to relaunch a search engine in China.

That's what its CEO, Sundar Pichai, told a congressional panel on Tuesday.

China has blocked Google's search platform since 2010.

SOUNDBITE: GOOGLE CEO, SUNDAR PICHAI, (ENGLISH) SAYING: "Right now, we have no plans to launch in China.

We don't have a search product there.

Our core mission is to provide users access to information, and getting access to information is an important human right.

So we are always compelled across the world to try hard to provide that information." Pichai said there are no talks going on with the Chinese government.

Manhattan Venture Partners head of research, Santosh Rao: SOUNDBITE: MANHATTAN VENTURE PARTNERS HEAD OF RESEARCH, SANTOSH RAO, (ENGLISH) SAYING: "In terms of China, which I think was the core of this whole hearing, I have a feeling they did not get the answers they were looking for.

Google did not say that China is off the cards, we're not doing any work, we're not doing any business there." China aside, much of the hearing focused on Republican concerns that Google's search engine results are biased against conservatives.

Pichai repeatedly told lawmakers Google does not engage in partisan activities.
