Following the sentencing of former movie producer Harvey Weinstein to 23 years in prison for his sexual assault and rape conviction last month, his defense attorney Donna Rotunno called the sentence "obscene" and "obnoxious."

"That number did not speak to evidence that came out in the trial, that number did not speak to the testimony we heard, that number did not speak to evidence, nor did it speak to justice.

I am overcome with anger at that number.

I think that number is a cowardly number to give.

I think the judge caved, just as I believe the jury caved and I am not happy," Rotunno said.

The sentence was handed down in a Manhattan criminal court by Justice James Burke, who presided over Weinstein's trial.

A jury on Feb.

24 found Weinstein, 67, guilty of sexually assaulting former production assistant Mimi Haleyi and raping former aspiring actress Jessica Mann.
