11-year-old swimmer reinvents a pool in her garden

A medal-winning 11-year-old swimmer who was missing training came up with a creative solution in her garden - involving a bungee rope and a paddling pool.

Kacey Evans has loved swimming since the age of three and regularly takes part in competitions, gaining an impressive collection of medals.

The young fitness fan usually trains six times-a-week in her local pool and dreams of becoming an Olympic swimmer.

But lockdown has meant Kacey missing out on her sessions - until she took matters into her own hands.

Fastening a bungee rope onto the edge of her 10ft garden swimming pool, Kacey has been keeping her strength training up by practicing in her garden in Wyre Forest, in Worcestershire.

Proud mum Tessa Evans, 32, said: "Kacey was really disappointed to hear her competitions were being cancelled due to coronavirus so came up with her own idea to keep on training at home.

"The bungee rope is designed for confident swimmers who want to introduce strength exercises into their training.

"The swimming elastic comprises an adjustable belt that secures around your body and a stretchy cord that attaches to something allowing you to swim with extra resistance, working you hard.

"She's done an hour in our pool in the garden every day for the past two weeks.

"Kacey's dream is to become an Olympic swimmer when she is older and she is not letting this pandemic stop her!" Kacey is part of Wyre Forest swimming club.
