COVID update: PM's warning as country enters Unlock 2; caseload at 5.65 lakh, death toll nearing 17,000 mark

As the country is moving into the second phase of unlocking the economy amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Prime Minister warned the citizens against growing carelessness since the Unlock 1 started.

Countrywide cases have mounted to 5.65 lakh, while the death toll is staring at 17,000 mark.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit as it reported 4878 infections in last 24 hours, taking active cases to 75,979 out of the 1.74 lakh caseload.

It also reported 245 deaths out of which 95 took place in last 24 hours while remaining 150 from previous period.

The toll is nearing 8,000.

Karnataka, which is seen as the new trouble state reported 947 new cases in last 24 hours, taking confirmed infections to 15,242.

Being the third most affected state, COVID-19 cases crossed 1 lakh mark in Delhi, with 1379 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. Total number of cases stands at 1,00,823 including 72,088 recovered/discharged/migrated and 25,620 active cases. 48 deaths reported today; the death toll is at 3,115. In the last 24 hours, 933 new COVID-19 positive cases and 24 deaths have been reported in Uttar Pradesh. Where several states in the country are witnessing increase in the COVID-19 cases, Ladkah reported decrease in the number of positive cases. 10 patients were cured and discharged in Ladakh and active case drop to 168. 3 more personnel of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) were tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. There are total 151 active cases and 273 have recovered till date.
