Protesters face off with NYPD as city votes to cut $1 billion from police budget

Tensions were high outside city hall in New York City on Wednesday night (June 30) as the city prepared to vote on the 2021 budget.

Hundreds of people gathered outside city hall for a seventh day blocking access to the "City Hall Autonomous Zone" with barricades.

Shortly after midnight, lawmakers agreed to cut $1 billion from the NYPD budget and reallocate to education and social services.

The protests continued through the night and the zone is still currently occupied.
