Golf caddy demands compensation from Italian pensioner whose wayward shot hit her in the eye

A golf caddy is demanding compensation from an Italian pensioner after his wayward shot hit her in the eye.

Phairin Kanthawong, 66, was taking Gaicoma, 65, round the course in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand, earlier this month.

But she claims that while Gaicoma was teeing off, he asked her to walk ahead of the ball.

Gaicoma's skewed drive then clattered into her face, connecting with her left eye.

Phairin was taken to the hospital and was treated for cornea damaged which had made her partially blind as well as a fractured eye socket.

The caddie decided to bring the matter to the police on Monday (July 13) morning as she believed she should be compensated by the foreigner.

The police received the report and called upon both parties to negotiate for the compensation which the caddie demanded 500,000THB (12,646GBP).

The Italian told the police that her demand is unreasonable as he thought it was an accident and had already paid for her medical fees.

He said: "I already pay 5,000THB (126GBP) for her medical fee on the day of the accident and will not pay the price she demands since she should not be in the drive way at the beginning." Police said that if the negotiation collapses they will have to investigate for the case.

Police Colonel Narueban Jittayanan said: "Initially the negotiation has not gone very well but they are still trying to fix the situation.

"If they cannot decide between themselves we will have to open the investigation against the Italian as it will be initiated by the woman.''
