Aberdeen leaders take extra precautions to protect students from coronavirus

Aberdeen school leaders changed the start of classes because of the increase in coronavirus cases in Monroe County

Aberdeen school leaders moved the start of traditional classes because of the increase in cases reported in monroe county.

Wtva alexis jones spoke with the county's superintendent about the district's plans moving forward.

Aberdeen schools were set to reopen in the beginning of august.

But since cases have rose to 536 in monroe county, the district is taking extra precautions to protect students and staff.

Pkg: sot: "as we were talking to our stake holders, we felt like that this was going to be the best decision for our district."

Vo: administrators pushing the first day of school to august 24th isn't the only change that will be made.

Teachers will now start on the 17th.

Aberdeen's superintendent, jeff clay, said the district wants every school to be thoroughly cleaned before teachers arrive.

Sot: "cleaning is on going.

That's on a daily basis.

Uh we're making sure the the buildings are ready."

Vo: once classes begin, fridays will be a distant learning day for all students.

Superintendent clay said administrators want to use fridays for cleaning, teacher meetings, and parent conferences .

Tag: administrators also plan to follow the hybrid model.

Students will be put into an a and b group.

Both groups will attend school twice a week on separate days..
