Former President Pranab Mukherjee tested coronavirus positive on August 10. Mukherjee had gone to the hospital for separate procedure, where he was diagnosed with coronavirus. He announced the news on his Twitter handle. Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah is also undergoing treatment for coronavirus.
A pangolin was found at Lalita Devi temple in Bestavaripeta village of Andhra Pradesh's Prakasam. The pangolin was rescued by forest officials. Forest Officer Satish said that they got information from villagers, who caught it and they went there and rescued the animal.
India tested 7,19,364 samples for COVID-19 on August 08. 2,41,06,535 samples have been tested for SARS-CoV-2 so far, according to Indian Council of Medical Research. Country also reported highest single-day spike of 64,399 cases on August 9. Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh continue to lead caseload, as states witnessed surge of 12,248 and 10,820 cases respectively.
Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Mekatoti Sucharita expressed her deepest condolences with the families of the deceased. She said, "I express my deepest condolence with the families of the deceased. The hotel was taken on lease and run by Ramesh Hospitals, a private hospital where COVID-19 patients were being treated. 40 patients and 10 medical staff were at the hotel at the time of incident. Officials were directed to launch immediate rescue measures."
A major fire broke out at a hotel in Andhra Pradesh's Vijayawada, killing at least nine people and trapping several others. The hotel - Swarna Palace - was being used as a Covid-19 facility. It was being used as a Covid care centre by Ramesh Hospitals. There were about 30 patients and 10 medical staff at the time of accident. Vijayawada police commissioner B Srinivasulu said that the control room was informed at around 5.15 am about the fire breaking out in the hotel. "We rushed tenders immediately and the fire was brought under the control now,” he said. About 17 patients were brought out safely using ladders. Two staff members jumped from hotel's second and third floors after the fire. So far, 9 bodies have been brought out and they were found to have died of suffocation. The rescue operations were underway till the reports last came in. Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed shock and grief over the accident. Reddy has instructed officials to conduct an inquiry into the accident. He has also announced an ex gratia of Rs 50 lakh to each of the families of those killed in the hotel fire. State Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan expressed his condolences to the bereaved families.
