A mishap occurred during celebration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday in Chennai on September 17. Workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party had collected helium balloons as part of the festivities. However, sparks from fireworks reportedly led to an explosion in the balloons. Over 30 BJP workers were reportedly injured in the incident and had to be rushed to a hospital. Their injuries were minor, as per reports. The BJP observed 'seva saptah' or service week to mark PM Modi's birthday. He turned 70 on September 17 and tweeted that what he wants on his birthday is for people to follow Covid precautions like wearing face masks and following social distancing. India's Permanent Representative to United Nations TS Tirumurti spoke on the upcoming General Assembly session. Tirumurti said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address will be the highlight of India's participation. Ram Temple trust head, Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, has tested positive for Covid-19. Das is the chief of Ayodhya's Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust. 80-year-old Das is currently in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken detailed information on the health condition of Das. He has spoken to Mathura DM and Dr Trehan of Medanta hospital. Adityanath has also requested for immediate medical attention to Das at the facility. Das had recently shared dais with PM Modi and other VIPs at Ram Temple's groundbreaking ceremony. He was among the people on the stage at the ceremony in Ayodhya on August 5. Other VIPs included CM Adityanath, UP Governor Anandiben Patel and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat. PM Modi had participated in bhoomi pujan and laid the foundation stone of Ram Temple. The construction of Ram Temple, which is being overseen by Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust, has begun nine months after the Supreme Court verdict.

A major step has been taken in the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. The Ayodhya Development Authority has approved the map of the proposed Ram Temple. The Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra had submitted the layout of the Ram temple to Ayodhya Development Authority for approval. An official of the Ayodhya Development Authority said that permission had been taken from all concerned departments following which an approval was given. PM Modi had laid the foundation stone of the Ram Temple and performed bhoomi poojan on 5th of August in Ayodhya. RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat and a few other dignitaries were also present on the occasion. The Ram Temple Trust has said that the temple will be designed to be able to withstand earthquakes, storms and other natural calamities. India’s traditional construction styles will be adhered to in construction of the temple. In February this year, Prime Minister Modi announced the constitution of Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra, to oversee the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya. We will take everything which is good for us from the world. What we take from outside should be according to our needs," Bhagwat said. He added, "Aano bhadra krtavo yantu vishwatah." BJP chief JP Nadda lashed out at the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal and accused it of being anti-Hindu. Speaking at the party’s West Bengal state executive meeting, Nadda said that Trinamool Congress government lifted the lockdown for Bakrid but imposed it again on the day of the Ram Temple ‘bhoomi poojan’ on 5th August. Nadda questioned the need for a lockdown on August 5th and alleged that it was done to prevent people from being part of the occasion at the local level. Nadda further said that this is politics of appeasement and added that it shows the anti-Hindu mindset of the TMC government in the state. The BJP president said that the Mamata Banerjee government’s anti-Hindu stance needs to be exposed in front of the people of the state. As coronavirus cases continue to surge in the country, the recovery graph of states in parallel shows a steady picture. Maharashtra reported 21,656 new coronavirus cases taking total cases to 11,67,496. The state has so far reported 8,34,432 recoveries. Uttar Pradesh recorded 6,584 new infections and 6,806 recovered cases on September 18. Karnataka reported 8,626 new COVID-19 cases taking total number of cases to 5,02,982.
