Setting aside their political differences, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and Union minister Nityanand Rai attended the shraddha ritual of LJP founder Ram Vilas Paswan who died recently. Paswans son Chirag was seen touching feet of Kumar and some other senior leaders, who have been at the receiving end of the LJP presidents relentless political tirade during the election season. The Brahm-bhoj as part of the shraddha ritual was organized at the LJPs state headquarters here. The chief minister accepted a laddu (sweet) and met the deceased leaders wife.

Guard of Honour was accorded to late Lok Janshakti Party leader Ram Vilas Paswan in Patna on October 10. His son, Chirag Paswan carried out the religious rites with a heavy heart. Paswan's mortal remains were brought to Patna from Delhi on the night of October 09. He had passed away at age of 74 in Delhi on October 08.
Calling the BJP-JD(U) partnership in Bihar as "superhit" as the opening pair of Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag in cricket, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday said one can debate on the quantum of development done by Nitish Kumar, but no one can point a finger at the chief minister on the issue of corruption. Singh also attacked the opposition, saying the people had also witnessed the 15-year tenure of the RJD government in the state and can well understand the difference between the "misrule" of that time and the good governance of the Nitish Kumar-led alliance government. Addressing a rally here in Bhagalpur district ahead of assembly polls beginning October 28, Singh said, "The alliance of the BJP and the JD(U) is as superhit as the opening pair of Sachin and Sehwag of the Indian cricket team."He said the alliance government has provided basic facilities of electricity, road, and water, which Bihar lacked for decades. The Home Minister paid tribute at National Police Memorial on Police Commemoration Day. "My tributes to police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. So far, 35,398 police personnel have lost their lives in the line of duty. Names of all those police personnel are marked here at the wall. This memorial is not just made of bricks and cement. This memorial remembers the martyrdom of our soldiers. We salute the martyrdom of brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives," he said. The police memorial in the national capital is spread over 6.12 acres. It has a 30-foot tall heavy black granite central sculpture and a museum and 'Wall of Valour' bearing names of police personnel who died on duty. The Police Commemoration Day is observed every year on October 21. The day is observed in memory of CRPF jawans who died in Ladakh while fighting Chinese troops on this day in 1959.

Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale met the victim's family of Hathras alleged gang-rape case. Athawale announced to pay an aid of Rs. 5 lakh to the family. Athawale said, "We assured all possible help to the victim's family. They have a son who is class XII pass and should be given a class 3 job. The Republican Party of India is giving aid of 5 lakh rupees. UP government is taking all possible action."

A group of restaurant owners in Delhi are distributing food among refugees and needy people during Navratri festival. Restaurants and bars-'The Marketplace', 'Josh-The High Energy Bar' and 'Swagath Restaurant and Bar' are serving food to the Rohingya refugees living in Jasola slum. The food is being distributed with precaution following all the safety guidelines among the Rohingyas. Speaking to ANI, owner of 'Josh-The High Energy Bar' and 'The Market Place', Shivam Sehgal said "The festival is just another reason for me to spread happiness and you know blessings from these poor people can never be enough. I do this a few times a year. I am in the hospitality industry for almost five years and this helps me with doing this all the more." Rohingya refugee Mohd Shirajullah said there are more facilities in India than Burma. He said, "People here help us a lot, whether it is with food or shelter. Amid the coronavirus pandemic, people have been helping us with food, oil, soaps and shampoos right from the time of the lockdown." Another refugee said that they have no problem here. He added, "Government has made all the arrangements. We are thankful that India is helping us." Serving the refugees during festivities of India is a wonderful act by these people. India certainly need more people like them.
The 'first blasting' for construction of Zojila Tunnel took place in Jammu and Kashmir's Ganderbal district on October 15. 14.15-km-long tunnel will provide all-weather connectivity between Srinagar, Dras, Kargil and Leh regions. Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari virtually initiated the project work. Minister of State (MoS) for Road Transport and Highways General Vijay Kumar Singh, MoS PMO Dr Jitendra Singh also attended the virtual event. Nitin Gadkari had reviewed this whole project in detail in February 2020.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh laid foundation stone for Nechiphu Tunnel on road to Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh via video conferencing. Defence Minister also inaugurated 44 bridges on October 12 made by Border Roads Organisation (BRO) across seven States/Union Territories, via video-conferencing. Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Bipin Rawat, Indian Army chief MM Naravane and MoS Dr Jitendra Singh were present on the occasion. Addressing the event, Rajnath said, "The construction of these bridges will facilitate military and civil transport in our western, northern and north-east areas." "Our armed forces personnel are deployed in large numbers in areas where transport is not available throughout the year," Defence Minister added. "Even during the lockdown period, BRO continued operations in the North-Eastern states, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. BRO continued its work ensuring that snow clearance is not delayed at remote locations," he further stated. Last week, the Defence Minister had said that the strategically important Atal Tunnel is dedicated to the armed forces protecting India's borders and those living in the remote terrains."I do not need to explain the importance of this tunnel. Its strategic importance is understood by everyone. It will ensure speedy and faster transportation of rations, weapons and other logistics. It will also help in faster deployment of personnel. Situated on the border of two nations, it is dedicated to those protecting our borders, and those who live in those areas," Singh said at the inaugural ceremony in Manali.
