The ongoing farmers' protest entered 29th day on December 24. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai blamed central government's ego for the farm laws issue and further requested them to talk to the farmers in order to find a way out of this agitation. Gopal Rai said, "I feel the government is stuck on the farm laws issue because of its ego. They have called farmers Khalistani, Naxals, terrorists, and whatnot. The delay tactics of the govt are not working anymore. I would request the central government to talk to the farmers."

A Punjab artist painted portraits of US President-elect Joe Biden and VP-elect Kamala Harris on the eve of their inauguration. Jagjot Singh Rubal painted the portraits as a gift to the leaders on their swearing-in. The artist also expressed his wish to display his work in the White House. Rubal took 20 days to complete the portraits painted on joint canvas using acrylic colours. He had earlier received a letter of appreciation from PM Modi for his portrait. Scores of farmers held a tractor march at Chandigarh-Punjab border against Centre's new farm laws. Protesting farmers, camped at border areas of the national capital, have confirmed their tractor parade on Republic Day, in order to build up pressure on the government. Farmers have been protesting for nearly two months with the agenda of seeing the new farm laws being scrapped, however, multiple meetings with the government have failed to produce any result.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a high-level meeting with Delhi Police officials on January 19. He was accompanied by Minister of State G Kishan Reddy. The meeting was held ahead of the Republic Day celebrations in Delhi next week.
