Bengali actor Srabanti Chatterjee joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kolkata on March 01 ahead of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections. The actor joined the party in presence of West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh and party's election in-charge in the state, Kailash Vijayvargiya. West Bengal Assembly elections will be held in eight phases starting from March 27 with the final round of voting taking place on April 29. Counting of votes will take place on May 02.
BJP worker and his 85 year old mother from West Bengal who were allegedly beaten by miscreants accuse TMC workers for the assault. Reportedly, 85 year old woman Shova Majumdar and her son Gopal Majumdar who is a bjp worker were in their house in parangas district. 3-4 miscreants broke into their house by the early hours on Saturday and thrashed the mother and her son.

For the first time in the history of Manipur, 33 communities in Manipur took a pledge to end poppy cultivation in Imphal on Feb 25.Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh led the leaders and representatives of 33 different communities in taking a collective pledge to work together towards destruction of illegal poppy cultivation and checking illicit drug businesses. The rally was part of the "war on drugs" campaign launched by the Chief Minister. The rally was held under the banner 'All Communities Convention for a Pledge against Illegal Poppy Plantation' was organized at Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre by Meitei Leepun in association with the apex bodies of the 33 communities. Leaders and representatives of Kharam Tribe Union, Purum Tribe Union, Koireng Tribe Union, Thadou Inpi, Manipuri Gorkha Association, Kom Tribe Union, Chiru Tribe Union, Thangal Tribe Union, Maram Union among others took the pledge.
The Department of Youths Affairs and Sports in Manipur observed Shannaroishingee Numit 'Players' Day' at Khuman Lampak main stadium in Imphal on February 25. This day is observed to recall the State's historic win of 'Raja Bhalendra Singh Trophy' of overall team championship in the 5th National Games held in Manipur in 1999. Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh graced the function, while Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS) Minister Letpao Haoki was present as the functional president. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of playgrounds in molding budding young players and promoting them up to the international level. The Chief Minister also said that the government is putting in efforts in mission mode to promote Thang-Ta (armed combat) in the state. The Chief Minister also flagged-off a mass run in connection with the celebration. He also gave away a prize to the maintenance team of Khuman Lampak Sports Complex in recognition of their hard work.
Residents of Kala Pahar in Kangpokpi District undertook a temporary road blockade at the Imphal-Dimapur, National Highway -2 on February 18 demanding the release of abducted driver Tikaram Rizal. On 16th February, a few unidentified youths from the residence of Gopilal abducted him, since then no information was available about his whereabouts. Lunseih Kipgen, IGP Zone-III said that they suspect Kuki National Front (KNF) to be involved in the case, and is working for the early rescuing of the victim. The protestors formed a Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the abduction of Tikaram Rizal and took a collective resolution. Vigyan Koirala, Convenor of JAC stated they have taken and resolved to form a JAC having 18 members.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh reopened the historic Ima Keithel (Mother's market) after almost 11 months. Ima Market was shut due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Ima Keithel meaning 'mother's market' is believed to be the largest markets in Asia which is solely run by women vendors. CM Singh announced that women vendors of Ima Markets would be exempted from a vendor license fee for the year. The Chief Minister announced the names of the three Ima Markets as Leimarel Sidabi Ima Keithel for Market No. 1, Imoinu Ima Keithel for Market No. 2, and Phouoibi Ima Keithel for Market No. 3. The reopening has brought great relief to over 4,000 women vendors. The state government is in the process of setting up 16 such Ima markets in different districts across Manipur.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the 69th Plenary Meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC) on January 23 in Shillong. The Union Home Minister was received by the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K Sangma, and other dignitaries. Vice-Chairman of NEC Dr. Jitendra Singh who is also the Minister for DoNER (Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region) and Secretary of NEC was also present in the plenary meeting. Governors and Chief Ministers of the eight northeastern states along with a large number of delegations of state government and central ministries were present at the meeting which is scheduled to conclude tomorrow. Various developmental undergoing projects in the entire Northeastern were discussed during the meeting.
