COP26 (26th UN Climate Change Conference) President Alok Sharma met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 16 in Delhi. PM Modi conveyed best wishes to the United Kingdom for the successful organisation of the climate summit. COP26 President Sharma also met Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Prakash Javadekar today. "Glasgow will host COP26, he (Alok Sharma) is meeting various leaders and discussing with them to arrive at landing zones. We discussed all issues which are contemporary and important for negotiations in Glasgow," said Javadekar. "I showcased him and told about various initiatives taken by India on renewable, disaster-resilient infrastructure, adaptation, electrical buses, metro expansion, our reduction of emission intensity and increasing tree cover. It was a very fruitful meeting," he added.
Officials have identified the first UK cases of the Manaus variant of coronavirus, a new strain that may spread more rapidly and respond less well to existing vaccines.Public Health England (PHE) said on Sunday that six cases of the concerning P.1 variant first detected in the Brazilian city have been confirmed in Britain, three in England and three in Scotland.

Alex Salmond has said there is a failure of leadership in Scotland as he attacked First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.
In his opening statement to a Holyrood inquiry into the Scottish Government's unlawful investigation of sexual harassment claims made against him, Scotland's former first minister accused his successor Ms Sturgeon of using a Covid press conference to "effectively question the result of a jury".
Mr Salmond is testifying on the botched government investigation which was found to be "tainted by apparent bias" by the court.
He was acquitted of 13 charges of sexual assault in a criminal trial, and he successfully challenged the lawfulness of the government investigation.
The current Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has insisted there was no conspiracy against Mr Salmond, and she is due to appear before the committee to give evidence next week.
