Chancellor Rishi Sunak has defended his Budget when asked why he has not made provisions for coronavirus related costs beyond 2022. During a Downing Street press conference Mr Sunak was asked if it was his "honest judgement that the pandemic will cost nothing from next year". The Chancellor admitted that he does not know exactly the future path of what is going to happen, adding: "I don't have a crystal ball". A report by a US firm has claimed that Chinese hackers were behind the Mumbai power outage in October 2020. While China has rejected the allegations, experts suggest that cyber sabotage is a strategy that has been used by Beijing in the past against many countries including Taiwan and the US. Speaking to Hindustan Times’ Aditi Prasad, Beenu Arora, CEO of Cyble Cyber Security, said that cyber warfare is among the easiest way to target adversaries and governments should take some serious steps to understand the threat and tackle it better. The first high dam on the Yamuna is scheduled to come up at Lakhwar in Dehradun and Tehri in Uttarakhand after the Union environment ministry’s expert appraisal committee recommended the 300MW Lakhwar Multipurpose Project for environmental clearance in its December 2 meeting last year. Residents of Lohari village along the Yamuna are both happy and anxious about the project. The Lakhwar Project is contentious as it will impact a large forest area. Uttarakhand’s glacier breach on February 7 impacted Raini village on the banks of Rishi Ganga river. Raini villagers were the first to warn people about the glacier breach. The villagers narrated how warning systems at Rishi Ganga project site failed to trigger. It was beyond their imagination to see a glacier burst during winters. They said that they have seen glacier breach events in the past but a flashflood of this degree was unforeseen. Over 100 people in Tapovan are still missing and feared dead. Relatives of missing workers also informed that alarm system failed to trigger at Tapovan hydropower project site.
