Union Home Minister Amit Shah on January 17 said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, India is counted among those countries which have recorded fewer deaths due to COVID-19.
Sweden Ambassador to India, Klas Molin, on March 06 said that the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the European Union (EU) and India will be negotiated at an aggregate level as per the special mechanism set up during the last summit. "Trade agreements, as Sweden is member of EU, is negotiated by European Commission. Talks on for investment and trade, special mechanism was set up during last summit between India and EU so agreements on it will be negotiated at aggregate level," said Molin. On Mar 05, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a virtual interaction with his Swedish counterpart Stefan Lofven where the two leaders discussed bilateral ties and called for further cooperation on climate change.
While addressing a press conference in the national capital on March 05, the Secretary (West) in Minister of External Affairs (MEA), Vikas Swarup spoke on India-Sweden virtual summit. Swarup said, "Regular high-level interactions between the two countries reflect the strong commitment on both sides for deepening the multifaceted partnership." "During the summit, both leaders (Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Swedish PM Stefan Lofven) underlined that the long-standing close relations between India and Sweden are based on the shared values of democracy, rule of law, pluralism, equality, freedom of speech and respect for human rights," he added. "They reaffirmed their strong commitment to work for multilateralism, rules-based international orders, counter-terrorism, peace and security," MEA Secretary (West) further stated.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired BJP’s central election committee meeting in Delhi. BJP’s CEC met to finalise party candidates ahead of elections. PM Modi, Home minister Amit Shah, Defence minister Rajnath Singh were present in the meeting. Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan was also seen in the meeting. The meeting was held at BJP headquarters in the national capital. This comes ahead of polls in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry. Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai on demands for reservations by several communities said a 3-member high-level committee will be formed to look into the matter. "We've appointed a high-level committee to look into all reports, demands for reservation by communities, increase in 50% constitutional provision, Supreme Court judgements and legal framework -how to go ahead with demands and give social justice to the people," said Karnataka Home Minister. Basavaraj Bommai added, "So a 3-member high level committee has been appointed. It will be headed by a retired High Court judge who will be its Chairman. There will be one administrator and one person who will be well versed in social science."
