India provided COVID-19 vaccines to Saint Lucia on March 01. 'Made in India' vaccines was received by the Prime Minister Allen Chastanet of Saint Lucia. India provided 25,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine to the island nation Saint Lucia. The consignment of coronavirus vaccine reached under India's 'Vaccine Maitri' initiative. The 40,000 doses of 'Made in India' coronavirus vaccines also arrived in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. It was received by Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves on March 01. They received Serum Institute of India (SII)'s Covishield doses today. Earlier, India supplied COVID-19 vaccines to neighbouring countries Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh under the 'Neighbourhood First' policy.
Phase 2 of India's Covid-19 vaccination drive was launched in high-profile manner on March 1 with Prime Minister Narendra Modi becoming one of the first beneficiaries. The second phase of the programme involves inoculation of those aged 60 and above, and those aged 45+ with comorbidities. The process for registration involves entry of mobile number and identity card details on the government's dedicated Co-win platform. In a fresh twist to the Mukesh Ambani threat case, the owner of the car found abandoned outside the businessman's house was found dead. On February 25, a Scorpio laden with 2.5 kg explosives and a letter threatening Ambani and his family was found outside the Reliance Industries' chairman's Mumbai resident 'Antilia'. On March 5, police said that the owner of the car, Hiren Mansukh, was found dead after allegedly committing suicide. During a press briefing on January 28, MEA spokesperson Anurag Srivastava informed that over 55 lakh doses of vaccines have been gifted neighbours and extended neighbourhood since January 20. MEA spokesperson, said, "rom Jan 20, we've gifted over 55 lakh doses of vaccines to our neighbours and extended neighborhood-1.5 lakh to Bhutan, 1 lakh to Maldives, Mauritius and Bahrain, 10 lakhs to Nepal, 20 lakhs to Bangladesh, 15 lakhs to Myanmar, 50,000 to Seychelles, 5 lakh to Sri Lanka on request. Over the next few days, we've planned to gift further quantities of 1 lakh doses to Oman, 5 lakh doses to CARICOM countries, 2 lakhs to Nicaragua and 2 lakh doses to Pacific Island states."
India once again established its position as a reliable partner in Covid-19 assistance. It dispatched Covishield to Bahrain and Sri Lanka under the Vaccine Maitri Initiative. Sri Lanka to receive a consignment of 50,400 doses, while Bahrain to get 10,800 doses. Covishield developed by Serum Institute of India was loaded to cargo aircraft at Mumbai. The cargo aircraft left Mumbai airport as per schedule at 7:55 am for Manama. The vaccine consignment for Colombo, which delayed for 15 minutes, left at 9:00 am. Meanwhile, India has supplied vaccines to its neighbours under neighbourhood first policy. Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh received vaccines. India sees international cooperation in the area of fight against Covid-19 as its duty. New Delhi has played the role of the first responder in the region.
