There is no restriction on tourists coming to Himachal Pradesh, government will monitor COVID-19 situation in the state, informed Chief Minister Jairam Thakur on April 10 . "Tourism and hotel industry contribute 7% in GDP of Himachal Pradesh. Around 2 crore tourists have been coming here. Businesses suffered during COVID-19. They started picking up but another wave has hit. There is no restriction on tourists. We will monitor situation," said CM Thakur in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
As the number of COVID-19 cases continues to surge in Himachal Pradesh, state Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on April 06 said, "A decision has also been taken to restrict the gatherings in the marriage ceremony to 50 people indoor and maximum of 200 in open space till further orders. Moreover, only 50 persons would be allowed to attend funeral."
Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday, hours after chairing an emergency meeting on the coronavirus situation in the state. He tested positive for the second time in eight months. Yediyurappa will be shifted to Manipal hospital from Ramaiah Memorial hospital in Bengaluru where he was admitted earlier today following a fever.
The Crime Branch in Indore has arrested an owner of a pharmaceutical unit for allegedly selling fake doses of anti-viral drug remdesivir, considered life-saving for critical patients of COVID-19. Police recovered around 400 vials labelled as remdesivir. Guruprasad Parashar, Additional Superintendent of Police in Indore Crime Branch, informed that prime facie it has been found that the accused got the vials made from a pharma unit in Himachal Pradesh. The development comes as the country is facing a shortage of the anti-viral drug, and several reports of black marketing have been seen in various states. India has recently banned the export of remdesivir to accommodate the rising domestic demand in view of surge in infections.
Amid surge in COVID-19 cases, Himachal board examination for 10th and 12th classes started on April 14. Schools have been given strict instructions to follow COVID norms to ensure safety of the children. Over 2.5 Lakh students are appearing in both standards of the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education. Principal of Girls School Narendra Kumar Sood said, "Today examination of 10th and 12th board had begun. Hindi paper for 10th in morning session and English for 12th in evening session. Guards have also been ordered for thermal scanning and sanitization of the children before entrance. Social distancing would be maintained. We have followed all COVID norms so that it won't affect the children and examination."
Motor rally organised under "Chalo Chamba" campaign concluded in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba on April 11. "Rally of Chamba" attracted enthusiasts from across the country. Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju attended the closing ceremony of the rally and felicitated the winners at Police Ground Chamba.
