While Covid-19 cases and deaths continue to wreak havoc in the country, the new fear of mucormycosis or black fungus is causing more worries. Maharashtra has reported more deaths caused by the black fungus while the government has said there may be 2,000 cases of mucormycosis in the state. On Monday, Odisha also reported its first case of mucormycosis while Delhi, Gujarat and a few other states have already detected cases of the feared black fungus.

The birthday was being celebrated inside Covid ward of Surat Civil Hospital in Gujarat. In the video, a bunch of health workers are seen celebrating the birthday of a Covid patient. Clad in PPE kits, doctors & nurses can be heard singing a birthday song for the patient. Health workers were seen clapping, singing & dancing to the song 'Tum Jiyo Hazaro Saal’. As the country grapples with the second wave, the video certainly brings a smile on everyone's face.

In a viral video from Ahmedabad's Navapura village, a massive crowd of women was seen violating COVID protocols as women headed to offer prayers at the Baliyadev Temple. Without ensuring social distancing, women gathered at one place with earthen pots on their head. Police has taken action against 23 people including village sarpanch.
At least 18 people died after fire broke out at a Covid hospital in Gujarat's Bharuch. The massive blaze broke out in Covid-19 ward of the hospital at 1 am on Saturday. There were around 50 other patients at the 4-storey Welfare Hospital when fire broke out. Bharuch SP, Rajendrasinh Chudasama said, “A fire broke out at a Covid hospital in Bharuch due to a short circuit. As per our preliminary report, at least 12 patients have died due to fire.” Meanwhile PM Modi has expressed grief over the loss of lives and offered condolences to families of victims. CM Vijay Rupani announced Rs 4 lakh assistance for the kin of the deceased in hospital fire. The hospital is situated on Bharuch-Jambusar highway, around 190 km from Ahmedabad. Around 50 patients were rescued by locals, firefighters & shifted to nearby hospitals.

A goods train, carrying 6 medical oxygen tankers left for Delhi from Rajkot's Hapa station on May 08. A total of 129.86 tonnes of liquid medical oxygen have been sent by Reliance Industries, Jamnagar. Train will cover a distance of 1105 km to reach its destination. So far a total of 724.21 tonnes of liquid medical oxygen have been sent to various parts of the country by 9 Oxygen Express trains by Rajkot Division.
The second Ro-Ro Oxygen Express, carrying 45 metric ton liquid oxygen, arrived at Maharashtra's Kalamboli yard on April 26. The train was departed from Western Railway's Rajkot division on April 25. Liquid oxygen tankers for Maharashtra are coming from Jamnagar plant of Reliance Industries. Several states have encountered Oxygen crisis amid the rising cases in the second wave of COVID-19. Indian Railways started the Ro-Ro Oxygen Express in order to meet the need of oxygen shortage.
A chip-fitted pigeon was caught in Gujarat's Vadodara. It had a ring and a small device on its leg. According to Gujarat Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA), "Device may have been strung for some research purposes. Device sent to Gandhinagar for FSL tests, cops are investigating incident, pigeon is in custody of Forest Department".
In wake of COVID-19 spread, governments had issued guidelines for marriage which included avoiding large gatherings. Following these protocols, a couple in Vadodara opted for court marriage but called in guests for their reception. Couple brought in a twist at their reception, and had set up a blood donation camp. Around 50 guests who came to attend the reception donated the blood.
The Crime Branch busted a racket involved in black marketing of Remdesivir injections and arrested five people in Vadodara. Commissioner of Police of Vadodara, Shamsher Singh said, "We've seized 90 injections and Rs 2 lakhs from the accused. So far, they've sold 300-400 injections. Probe is underway."
