New Scientific Model Suggests, Ancient Human Migration, Was Driven by Climate Change.
Business Insider reports that a new scientific model
suggests that human migration over the last 2 million
years was driven by changes in Earth's climate. .
According to the model published in the journal
'Nature,' the Earth's shifting climate helped
to shape the way that ancient humans lived. .
According to the model published in the journal
'Nature,' the Earth's shifting climate helped
to shape the way that ancient humans lived. .
The detailed simulation of the planet's
climate history was modeled using
South Korea's powerful supercomputer, Aleph. .
The simulation stretches back to the
Pleistocene epoch and looks at 41,000-year
cyclical patterns in the planet's climate. .
The model reportedly incorporates
climatic changes that occur in response
to minor variations in Earth's orbit.
Business Insider reports that it took over six months for Aleph to make the necessary calculations to create the most comprehensive climate model simulation to date.
The team of researchers mapped the locations of over 3,200 archaeological discoveries of ancient fossils and artifacts left by human ancestors. .
Even though different groups of archaic
humans preferred different climatic
environments, their habitats all responded
to climate shifts caused by astronomical
changes in Earth's axis wobble, tilt, and
orbital eccentricity with timescales
ranging from 21,000 to 400,000 years. , Axel Timmermann, climate physicist at Pusan National University in South Korea, via Business Insider.
The simulation suggests that modern-day human
species may have emerged following a period
of drought in southern Africa and Eurasia. .
This dry period may have forced
our ancient ancestors to adapt
an estimated 300,000 years ago.
