Lori Lightfoot Tells LGBTQ+ Community , the ‘Supreme Court Is Coming for Us Next’.

'Newsweek' reports that the Chicago mayor took to Twitter on May 9 in response to speculation that the Supreme Court intends to overturn Roe v.

Wade.

Lightfoot thinks that if the landmark 1973 ruling does get thrown out, .

Conservatives will target the LGBTQ+ community next, such as Obergefell v.

Hodges, which legalized same-sex marriage in 2015.

To my friends in the LGBTQ+ community—the Supreme Court is coming for us next.

This moment has to be a call to arms. We will not surrender our rights without a fight—a fight to victory!, Lori Lightfoot, Chicago mayor, via Twitter.

Lightfoot also announced on May 9 that the city will give $500,000 to the Chicago Department of Public Health to help provide abortion access.

.

This includes women's rights, trans rights, immigrant rights and of course the right to same sex and interracial marriage.

We simply cannot stand idly by and let that happen, Lori Lightfoot, via Fox 32.

During an interview with MSNBC, Lightfoot was asked to elaborate on her "call to arms.".

I think everybody who saw that draft opinion has gone through a range of different emotions.

But we can't just be angry.

We've got to be intentional, we've got to be dedicated, Lori Lightfoot, Chicago mayor, via MSNBC.

And that's why I'm calling upon fellow elected officials across the country, and particularly my fellow mayors to join me in making a pledge that we made today, which is a justice for all pledge.

, Lori Lightfoot, Chicago mayor, via MSNBC.

And fundamentally, it reaffirms Chicago as a welcoming city, a city that doesn't discriminate, and a city that's going to stand with women, Lori Lightfoot, Chicago mayor, via MSNBC
