All roads blocked between Poland and neighbouring Belarus as tensions flare
Already-strained relations between Minsk and Warsaw are at a fever pitch after Poland closed its Bobrowniki border crossing with Belarus, one of the two main motorways between the two countries.
Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted a meeting on Friday with his Belarusian ally. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko suggested that Minsk could join Moscow’s efforts to revive an old alliance with Pyongyang after this week’s summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Lukashenko made the proposal as he met with Putin in the Black Sea resort of Sochi. At the meeting, the Russian leader reportedly said that he would brief him about the talks with Kim Jong Un.

The Nobel Foundation has reportedly invited a Russian Ambassador to attend its banquet. On Friday, Sweden's prime minister said that he disagreed with the Nobel Foundation inviting the Russian ambassador to this year's Nobel banquet, adding to growing criticism of the decision. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson issued a written statement. It said and I quote, “The Nobel Foundation of course decides who they want to invite. But like many others, I was greatly surprised that Russia was being invited. I would not have done it if I were handling invites to an award ceremony and I understand that it upsets many people in both Sweden and Ukraine." said Ulf Kristersson.

Poland held a massive parade in its capital Warsaw on Tuesday to showcase its military might, as the country seeks to strengthen its defense capabilities in the wake of the war in neighboring Ukraine. This largest parade since the cold war came as comes as tensions rise on the border between the NATO nation and key Russian ally Belarus. The Armed Forces Day parade took place on the anniversary of the 1920 Battle of Warsaw, in which Polish troops defeated Bolshevik forces advancing on Europe. Around 2,000 soldiers from Poland and other countries of the NATO military alliance participated in the parade. They marched through Warsaw accompanied by 200 items of defense equipment, while helicopters including Black Hawks and jets including F-16s and FA-50s flew overhead. Among the equipment on display were US-made M1A1 Abrams tanks, South Korean K2 tanks and K9 self-propelled howitzers, as well as HIMARS mobile artillery systems, Patriot air defense systems and Polish-made Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles.
