Pulitzer Prize for Music for his
extraordinary 2017 album, 'DAMN.'.
It was the first time the
prestigious award had been granted
to a genre outside of classical music or jazz.
According to the Pulitzer Prize administrator,
the decision to recognize
Lamar's work was unanimous.

Lamar grew up during the 1990s
in Compton, CA, surrounded by the
influence of artists like Tupac Shakur and Dr. Dre.
His previous album efforts
became known for their social commentary.
A fellow nominee called Lamar

A small single-engine plane crashed into two homes in Simi Valley’s Wood Ranch area, killing the pilot and igniting a fire that damaged both structures. The Van’s RV-10 aircraft had departed from Lancaster and was bound for Camarillo when it went down on High Meadow Street. Approximately 40 firefighters responded, quickly knocking down the fire and beginning salvage operations. Residents inside both two-story homes evacuated safely with no injuries. The FAA is investigating the crash, which adds to a troubling pattern of fatal aviation incidents across the U.S. this year.
