The first cyclone of 2023 forming in the Bay of Bengal, ‘Cyclone Mocha’, is expected to make landfall in West Bengal and Odisha this week.
The low pressure area is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm while moving nearly northwards towards the central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea.
Polling in 102 parliamentary seats across 21 states and Union Territories in the first phase of Lok Sabha Elections commenced at 7 am on April 19 and ended at 6 pm. Over 102 parliamentary constituencies in 21 states and union territories headed to the polling booth on Friday, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. West Bengal recorded the highest turnout till 5 PM at 77.57 per cent, followed by Tripura at 76.10 per cent. Voter turnout in Assam stood at 70.77 per cent, while Manipur recorded a voter turnout of 68.58 per cent till 5 PM.
