Russian warplanes hit vegetable market in Syria’s Idlib, at least a dozen killed | Oneindia News
In what is being described as a major flare-up of violence in Syria’s last opposition stronghold, nine people have been killed and dozens injured after Russian fighter jets bombed a city in Syria’s rebel-controlled northwestern Idlib province.
The air strike took place in Idlib's Jisr al-Shughur city which damaged a fruit and vegetable market as well.
The strike comes a day after Moscow's top mercenary group briefly revolted against Russian President Vladimir Putin.
France's foreign minister announced plans to engage in discussions with Lebanese officials on Sunday to address tensions between Hezbollah and Israel and prevent potential conflict. Earlier this year, Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne proposed a plan that involves Hezbollah pulling back 10 km from the Israeli border while Israel halts strikes in southern Lebanon. This proposal, discussed with partners including the U.S., aims to maintain momentum amid Israeli threats of military action in southern Lebanon. Russia Vetoes UN Resolution , to Prevent Nukes in Space.
The resolution was sponsored
by Japan and the United States.
It called on all nations to refrain from developing or deploying nuclear weapons "or other weapons of mass destruction in space," 'The Guardian' reports. .
A 1967 international treaty
already bans such weapons in space.
Russia’s U.N. Ambassador, Vassily Nebenzia,
vetoed the resolution, calling it "absolutely absurd and politicized," as well as a "dirty spectacle.".
China abstained from voting, while the rest of the 15-member council voted in favor of the resolution. .
