Thousands evacuate Greek islands as firefighters battle approaching flames

Thousands of tourists were evacuated from the Greek island of Rhodes as firefighters battled wildfires this week.

Footage recorded by Felix Balhetchet shows a large number of tourists and residents seeking safety from raging wildfires near the village of Kiotari.

As the flames approached resorts and coastal villages, private boats were employed to evacuate many of those affected, according to reports.

Local media has recently reported that a fierce battle rages on four fronts in Rhodes.

Firefighters, volunteers, and residents are working to prevent the flames from reaching the village of Vati.
