The Vatican has released the first solemn images of Pope Francis lying in repose inside his private chapel. Dressed in red vestments with a rosary in hand and a bishop’s mitre crowning his head, the 88-year-old pontiff rests in a wooden casket as Cardinal Pietro Parolin prays by his side. Francis passed away Monday night from a severe Stroke and heart failure. His funeral will be held Saturday at St. Peter’s Basilica. As Catholics mourn, Cardinal Kevin Farrell temporarily leads the Church during this time of sede vacante.
