At least 40 people have died after heavy rain caused a glacial lake to overflow in India’s Sikkim state.
Freezing cold water flooded the surrounding area, causing widespread devastation.
At least 15 bridges have been destroyed.
Houses and vehicles were swept away by the flood waters.
Much of the area is now buried under thick mud.
Tens of thousands have been affected by the floods, including many tourists.
26 relief camps have been set up to provide shelter.
2,400 people have been rescued so far, with at least 100 missing, including a number of military personnel.

Over 102 parliamentary constituencies in 21 states and union territories headed to the polling booth on Friday, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. West Bengal recorded the highest turnout till 5 PM at 77.57 per cent, followed by Tripura at 76.10 per cent. Voter turnout in Assam stood at 70.77 per cent, while Manipur recorded a voter turnout of 68.58 per cent till 5 PM.

The BJP on Tuesday named its candidates for the Assembly bypolls in several states, including Gujarat, Sikkim, West Bengal and Karnataka. The party has fielded the six MLAs from the seats they held as Congress members before their disqualification. The BJP nominated Sudhir Sharma from Dharamshala, Ravi Thakur from Lahaul and Spiti, Rajinder Rana from Sujanpur, Inder Dutt Lakhanpal from Barsar, Chetanya Sharma from Gagret and Devinder Kumar Bhutto from Kutlehar.
