Over the span of fifty years, five catastrophic plane crashes have punctuated the nation's skies, each leaving an indelible scar on its collective consciousness. The deadliest among them unfolded on a fateful day in 1992 when Pakistan International Airlines Flight 268 tragically crashed while approaching Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport. All 167 souls on board were lost in an instant, marking it as the country's worst aviation disaster to date.

In a tragic incident on Wednesday, a small plane belonging to Saurya Airlines crashed after skidding off the runway at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, resulting in the deaths of 18 out of 19 passengers on board. The sole survivor of the crash was the plane's pilot, Captain Manish Ratna Shakya. The aircraft, a Bombardier CRJ200 with the call sign 9N-AME/CRJ 200, was carrying two crew members and 17 technicians on a maintenance trip to Pokhara city. The crash occurred at 11:11 am local time as the plane attempted to take off from the southern end of the runway. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the plane flip and strike the ground with its wing tip before catching fire.
