Bangladesh Protests: Over 100,000 protest to demand PM Sheikh Hasina’s resignation | Oneindia
Over 100,000 supporters of two major Bangladesh opposition parties rallied in the capital Dhaka on Saturday, police said, demanding Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina step down to allow a free and fair vote under a neutral government.
Saturday's rallies by the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the largest Islamist party, Jamaat-e-Islami, were the biggest so far this year and marked a new phase in their protests with a general election due within three months.
Labour MP Tulip Siddiq says allegations by Bangladeshi authorities against her are a "politically motivated smear campaign" and insists there is "no evidence that I've done anything wrong". Ms Siddiq's aunt, Sheikh Hasina, is the former Bangladeshi prime minister. Report by Jonesia. Like us on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/itn and follow us on Twitter at http://twitter.com/itn
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Bangladesh's Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus in Bangkok during the BIMSTEC Summit, amid strained ties between the nations. The meeting follows Yunus’s controversial remarks on India’s Northeast, and India’s concerns over attacks on minorities in Bangladesh. Tensions have also risen due to Sheikh Hasina's asylum in India and growing Bangladesh-Pakistan military ties. Though Dhaka requested prior bilateral talks, Modi initially declined. This meeting is the first since Hasina’s ouster and may indicate cautious diplomatic re-engagement.

Deadly violence erupted in Jaramana, a Druze and Christian-majority suburb near Damascus, after a leaked audio recording allegedly insulting Islamic religious figures triggered outrage. On April 28, reports say Islamist HTS forces stormed the area, leading to intense gunfire and shelling that lasted around 30 minutes.
