Post Office scandal: New TV drama tells story of ‘historic miscarriage of justice’
The Post Office Horizon scandal has been dubbed the most "widespread miscarriage of justice in British legal history".
Now it has been made into a TV drama.
ITV's ‘Mr Bates vs The Post Office’ tells the story of how hundreds of local post office branch managers were wrongly accused of theft, fraud and false accounting over a 15 year period.
Many were sent to prison, left financially ruined and dealing with the long-term impacts of having a criminal record.

Angela van den Bogerd, a former senior director at the Post Office, arrived at the Post Office Horizon IT Inquiry on Thursday morning. She began with an apology on the first of her two days of giving evidence, telling the inquiry she was "truly, truly sorry" for the "devastation" caused to wrongly convicted sub-postmasters and their families. Errors in the Post Office's Horizon IT system meant money appeared to be missing from many branch accounts when, in fact, it was not. As a result, more than 700 sub-postmasters were handed criminal convictions between 1999 and 2015. Report by Jonesia. In their first interview, the parents of a sixteen-year-old boy who took his own life just hours after he was blackmailed by a scammer have told ITV News their "whole world has been shattered". Murray Dowey, 16, from Dunblane was contacted on social media by someone claiming to be a young girl but was actually a scammer, who tricked him into sending an intimate image and then blackmailed him with it. Sextortion, is when intimate images and/or videos are recorded and used for financial exploitation and coercion. It is mostly committed by organised criminal gangs overseas. Report by Covellm. A secret audio recording obtained by ITV News has revealed Post Office boss Paula Vennells was told directly about problems with the Horizon system and warned not to cover them up. In a meeting with independent investigators from Second Sight on July 2, 2013, Ms Vennells was made aware of allegations that sub-postmaster branch accounts could be accessed remotely. This is something the Post Office had denied for years. She was also told by investigators that the company’s position in denying Horizon faults was both “dangerous” and "stupid", according to the recording. Report by Czubalam. The funeral has taken place of an aid worker who was killed in Gaza last month. 47-year-old James Kirby died when his convoy was struck by an Israeli air strike. Around four hundred people gathered in Bristol today for James's funeral. His friend paid a touching tribute to him, saying that "he can’t be replaced by anyone, no one can ever take his part. The funeral of British aid worker James Kirby has taken place today at St Mary Redcliffe Church in Bristol. Mr Kirby, 47, was one of seven World Central Kitchen (WCK) workers killed in an Israeli drone attack in Gaza in April. His cousin Adam McGuire read a family tribute during the service, saying: “James’ decision to venture to Gaza, driven by his innate desire to help others, exemplified his selflessness and courage.” Report by Jonesia.
