Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra # Ontrayambakam Yajamahe Sugandhim Pushti Vardhanam | Urvarukamiva Bandhanan Mrityor Mukshiya Mamritat || The meaning of this mantra is that we are worshiping Lord Shiva who is the god who gives strength to all, who is fragrant.

As the fruit is separated from the womb, we too must be freed from death, from mortality.

Tyrambakam is the third eye of Lord Shiva which represents past, future and present.

Lord Shiva is known as trinetra because he has Indra, Agni and Samatatva.

Tyrambaka means three eyes.

The third eye is the miniature eye in the center of Shiva's brain.

It is the seat of supernatural power.

This is called Jyotirmatham.

Shiva's third eye has both the burning power and the life-giving power.

Yajamahe means meditating, we should always meditate on the Lord who is our protector.

Sugandhim su-good, gandha- suvanasana dravya.

Like sandalwood filled with good odors, the Lord spreads the fragrance of his devotee's affection on us.

Pushtivardhanam That Swami who makes us to be healthy is omnipresent.

The entire creation is under His control.

Urvarukam Iva Bandhanam Just as a cucumber is freed from its pod when it ripens, the Lord saves us from all problems. We wish the Lord who saves us from such problems as Mrityormukshia to protect us from death as well.

Death is not just physical death.

Being spiritually unconscious is also death.

Amritat Swami Alpa Santoshi.
