MMA Fighter Mastermind Behind Bloodbath In Russia's Dagestan; Shocking Details Of Terrorists
Authorities in Russia's Dagestan region have identified several individuals with significant backgrounds among those responsible for Sunday’s deadly attacks on places of worship in Derbent and Makhachkala, resulting in at least 20 fatalities.
The assailants included a former mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter and relatives of a regional official, according to reports from the Russian state news agency, TASS.
Five attackers involved in the violence were identified by law enforcement sources on Monday.
The coordinated attacks targeted multiple places of worship and included a violent confrontation at a police traffic stop in these cities within the Muslim-majority republic.
The tragic events resulted in the deaths of 15 police officers and four civilians, including an Orthodox priest.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed gratitude to Pope Leo XIV for offering to mediate global peace. In a heartfelt message on X, Zelensky called peace Ukraine’s “most sacred wish” and welcomed the Pope’s readiness to help end war. He reaffirmed Kyiv’s call for a full ceasefire and proposed a personal high-level meeting with Russia. The Pope had made his offer during an audience with Eastern Church pilgrims in Rome. His remarks are the latest in a string of Vatican efforts to reduce tensions worldwide and promote diplomacy over war.
