Saudi Arabia Picks Putin Over Biden?: MBS Warns G7 Against Seizing Russian Assets, Claims Report
The Group of Seven “likely” abandoned the US plan to expropriate Russia’s frozen central bank assets due to a “veiled threat” from Saudi Arabia, Bloomberg has reported.
The US and UK had been pushing for outright seizure of around $280 billion in Russian sovereign funds, which the West had frozen in 2022 citing the Ukraine conflict.
The EU, where most of the immobilised assets are held, was reluctant to see the euro endangered by the possible backlash.
Four major Arab nations — Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, and Jordan — have strongly condemned Israel’s military strikes on Iran, labeling them as violations of sovereignty and international law. Riyadh has called for urgent UN Security Council intervention, while the UAE urged maximum restraint. Kuwait and Jordan warned the strikes threaten Middle East stability. All four nations demand immediate global action to prevent the outbreak of a larger regional war, as fears of a wider Islamic world backlash begin to grow.

Israel has eliminated IRGC Aerospace Force Chief Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh in a precision airstrike on a secret underground command bunker. The Israeli Defense Forces confirmed that over 20 senior Iranian military officials, including commanders of Iran’s drone and air defense units, were also killed in the strike. The targeted facility was reportedly being used to coordinate an imminent large-scale attack on Israel. Hajizadeh, a key architect of Iran’s missile and drone programs, had previously overseen major offensives including the April and October 2024 attacks on Israel and the infamous 2019 drone strike on Saudi oil facilities.
