Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg made a surprise appearance at Budapest Pride, turning the annual LGBTQ parade into a loud political statement against Viktor OrbĆ”nās right-wing government.
Speaking at the march, Thunberg accused the Hungarian leadership of trying to āban loveā and labeled the event a protest against what she called āfascistā attacks on human rights. Her presence quickly drew backlash. BalĆ”zs OrbĆ”n, political director to the Prime Minister, took to X (formerly Twitter) to mock Thunberg as a āyoung, angry personā offering āunsolicited advice,ā also referencing her āfailed Gaza activism.ā
The event highlights the deepening tensions in Hungary over LGBTQ rights and government control, as critics say OrbĆ”n's policies continue to shrink civil liberties. The government insists it is defending traditional values. Thunbergās visit further fuels the culture war now at the center of Hungaryās politics ā and one that's drawing international attention.
