Greta Thunberg and 11 other activists aboard the Madleen, a ship carrying aid to Gaza, have reached Egypt’s coast. Part of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, the vessel departed from Sicily to challenge Israel’s blockade on Gaza. The crew, including German activist Yasemin Acar, say they are safe but prepared for confrontation. The Israeli Navy is expected to intercept the UK-flagged ship if it enters Israeli waters, a move rights groups say would violate international law. Britain has so far refused Israeli requests to block the ship’s entry into contested waters.

Israel has issued a stern warning that it is prepared to raid the Gaza-bound Freedom Flotilla ship ‘Madleen,’ which carries humanitarian aid and activists, including Greta Thunberg. The ship, which departed Sicily on June 2, is loaded with food and medical supplies meant for Palestinians. The Israeli navy says it will intercept the vessel if it nears Gaza’s waters, citing national security. Thunberg, along with actor Liam Cunningham and MEP Rima Hassan, say the mission aims to challenge Israel’s blockade and support Palestinian resistance amid worsening humanitarian conditions.

Mount Etna, Europe’s largest and most active volcano, erupted violently in Sicily, unleashing a colossal cloud of black ash and lava. Terrified tourists were seen sprinting down the mountain as pyroclastic flows rained hot debris. The eruption began after late-night volcanic tremors and peaked at dawn, with lava fountains exploding from the southeast crater. Italy’s volcanology institute reported strong strombolian blasts. Ashfall reached the Piano Vetore area, while aviation warnings were issued as ash rose to 6,400 meters. This marks Etna’s most intense eruption since February 2025.
