Sir Keir Starmer has delivered his first Labour Party conference speech as prime minister.
In a speech briefly disrupted by a pro-Palestine protester, he addressed the new government’s unpopular cuts to the winter fuel allowance, and warned of further tough decisions to turn the country around.
However, there were some announcements which will be welcome to many, including the introduction of a Hillsborough law, and guaranteed homes for veterans, young care leavers, and victims of domestic abuse.

Saudi Arabia is set to host the Gulf-US Summit in mid-May during former President Trump’s second-term visit, with high-stakes announcements expected. Speculation is mounting that the U.S. may back recognition of a Palestinian state—without Hamas—in a move that could realign the Middle East. Economic deals, including tech and nuclear cooperation, are forecast to surpass $400 billion. With all Gulf leaders in attendance (except King Salman due to health), analysts predict this summit may reshape U.S.-Saudi ties and the regional power balance.
