The FBI has revealed new and shocking details about the deadly truck ramming incident that took place on January 1, 2025, in New Orleans, which left at least 10 people dead and dozens injured.
Authorities confirmed the discovery of a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) at the scene, although Special Agent Alethea Duncan stated that it is still being investigated to confirm its viability.
While Mayor LaToya Cantrell initially called the incident a terrorist attack, the FBI quickly contradicted this, insisting that the attack is not classified as terrorism.
The suspect, who engaged in a firefight with police, was later found dead.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to understand the full scope of the tragedy, with law enforcement urging the public to stay clear of the affected area.
Federal authorities have identified Elpi Dio Reyna as the prime suspect in a violent anti-ICE protest in Los Angeles. Accused of injuring a federal officer by hurling rocks at law enforcement vehicles, Reyna was caught on video during the chaos on Alondra Boulevard. Declared “armed and dangerous,” the FBI has issued a $50,000 reward for information. Attorney General Pam Bondi vows tough federal charges, citing the Hobbs Act, as the FBI promises zero tolerance against attacks on officers during unrest.

The FBI says Daniel Park has been stockpiling a chemical that can be used to create makeshift explosive devices, with a purchase history going back as far as October 2022, and as recently as a few days prior to the explosion.

The fifth of ten inmates who escaped from a New Orleans jail has been recaptured, officials confirmed Tuesday. Corey Boyd, 19, initially jailed for Murder and multiple violent charges, was taken into custody days after Friday’s dramatic escape. Surveillance showed inmates crawling through a hole behind a toilet, scaling barbed wire, and fleeing across a highway. Boyd now faces an additional charge of escape and is expected to be transferred to a high-security state facility.
