The footage, taken during Thursday’s catastrophic storm, shows the firefighter’s LAFD vehicle engulfed by a powerful debris flow near Big Rock Drive in Malibu, as torrents of mud, water, and rocks rush down the hillside.
Miraculously, the firefighter managed to escape before being rescued and transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The violent storm, fueled by an atmospheric river, has triggered deadly mudslides and flash floods across Los Angeles County, forcing the indefinite closure of PCH and leaving communities on edge.

A massive tunnel collapse in Wilmington, Los Angeles triggered a high-stakes rescue mission as 31 workers were trapped deep underground — some nearly 6 miles from the only access point. The tunnel, still under construction and designed to carry wastewater, gave way late Wednesday night.
LAFD deployed over 100 personnel, including specialized confined-space rescue units, to navigate debris-filled passages and pitch-black tunnels.
