Vatican: Pope Francis' Coffin Sealed in St. Peter’s Basilica as Vatican Prepares for Final Farewell

Pope Francis’ coffin was solemnly sealed on Friday evening in St.

Peter’s Basilica after 250,000 mourners paid their respects.

The ceremony, led by Cardinal-Camerlengo Kevin Farrell, included prayers, placement of papal medals, and the covering of the Pope’s face with silk.

A zinc coffin was sealed inside a wooden one bearing his coat of arms. Pope Francis, known for his humility, chose to lie in state at ground level without a catafalque.

His funeral will be held Saturday, marking the end of a profound and pastoral pontificate.
