Vatican releases first images of Pope Francis in open coffin
Tuesday, 22 April 2025 The Vatican released the first photo and video of Pope Francis in repose, dressed in red liturgical vestments. He died at 88 from a cerebral stroke, as confirmed by Dr. Andrea Arcangeli. Pope Francis requested a modest burial at the Papal Basilica of St Mary Major, departing from the tradition of entombing popes at St Peterβs Basilica.
