Merseyside Police: The joy of the day dissipated quickly

Caption: Merseyside Police describes the circumstances that led to 50 people being injured after a car drove into a Liverpool FC victory parade hitting several pedestrians.

Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims says it is believed that the car โ€œwas able to follow an ambulance onto Water Street after the road-block was temporarily lifted so that the ambulance crew could attend to a member of the public who was having a suspected heart attackโ€.

The 53-year-old man thought to be the driver, is currently in police custody.
