A powerful 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck off Alaska's Sand Point coast at 12:37 a.m. local time, shaking the seismically volatile region and triggering a tsunami warning for South Alaska and the Alaska Peninsula. With an epicenter just 87 kilometers south of Sand Point and a shallow depth of 20.1 kilometers, the quake sparked panic in coastal towns.
