Yemen’s Houthis have launched a bold new assault on Israel, claiming strikes on Tel Aviv’s IDF headquarters, Ben Gurion Airport, Hadera Power Plant, and Ashdod Port using upgraded Yafa drones and missiles. Officials report that Israel’s Iron Dome and Arrow defense systems failed to intercept the attacks, leaving the country caught off guard. Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree warned that more deadly strikes will follow unless Israel halts operations in Gaza and Lebanon.
In a related escalation, Houthi forces also targeted the Liberian-flagged cargo ship MSC Aby in the Red Sea using drones and a Soumar-type cruise missile, reportedly causing significant damage. If verified, these attacks further threaten vital shipping lanes already disrupted by over 100 Houthi maritime strikes since 2023, raising the stakes for regional security and international trade.

Coldplay’s sold-out Wembley concert turned political as Chris Martin invited two Israeli fans on stage, sparking boos and cheers from the 90,000-strong crowd. While urging unity, Martin also welcomed Palestinian fans, drawing loud applause. The band’s gestures highlighted ongoing tensions, with Coldplay maintaining a nuanced position compared to other artists. Supporting act Elyanna, a Palestinian-Chilean singer, added to the moment’s significance. The incident follows Coldplay’s past mentions of Gaza and their longstanding connection with Israeli fans, leaving the band in the middle of a heated cultural divide.

In one of the largest police operations in over a decade, 474 people were arrested in central London during a mass protest against the UK’s ban on Palestine Action. The Metropolitan Police confirmed 466 arrests for “showing support” for the proscribed group, plus eight others for offences including assaulting officers. The protest, organised by Defend Our Juries, saw hundreds holding signs opposing genocide and supporting Palestine Action.
Critics, including Amnesty International, slammed the arrests as “deeply concerning” and a threat to free speech, saying the demonstrators were peaceful. The government defended the ban, calling Palestine Action a non-peaceful group, while announcing £8.5m in additional aid to Gaza. The crackdown follows the June proscription of the group after activists vandalised RAF aircraft in protest over UK arms sales to Israel.
