Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has defiantly declared that the United States cannot invade his country, even as Washington intensifies its military buildup in the Caribbean. The U.S. Navy has deployed eight warships, thousands of marines, and even a nuclear submarine close to Venezuela’s waters, sparking fears of a wider conflict. In response, Caracas has mobilized 15,000 troops, drones, and warships to reinforce security along the Colombia border. While U.S. officials insist the deployment is aimed at combating drug cartels, critics argue the scale of the operation points to a regime change agenda. Venezuela’s ambassador to the UN ridiculed the move, saying “no one fights drug cartels with nuclear submarines.” Meanwhile, Washington doubled its bounty on Maduro to $50 million, intensifying the pressure. Maduro insists Venezuela is stronger than ever and ready to confront what he calls an imperialist threat to sovereignty and peace.

Venezuela has escalated tensions with the United States as President Nicolás Maduro ordered 15,000 troops to the Colombia border amid the arrival of three US Navy warships off Venezuela’s coast. The dramatic military build-up comes as Washington accuses Maduro of leading a massive cocaine-trafficking cartel, while Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello vowed to combat drug cartels “on all fronts.” The United States has doubled its bounty on Maduro’s capture to $50 million and is reportedly preparing to deploy 4,000 Marines to the region. Meanwhile, Caracas has seized 53 tons of drugs this year but rejects US claims, instead accusing Washington of plotting regime change. With Venezuelan tanks moving toward border zones and US destroyers patrolling nearby waters, the risk of a direct military clash between Trump’s forces and Maduro’s army is higher than ever. The standoff threatens to spiral into one of the most dangerous flashpoints in the Americas.

Colombia has been rocked by one of its deadliest coordinated attacks in recent years, leaving at least 17 people dead. Authorities say dissidents of the defunct FARC rebels launched two brutal strikes: a car bomb outside a military aviation school in Cali and a drone attack on a police helicopter in Antioquia. At least 12 police officers were killed in the helicopter attack, which targeted personnel eradicating coca leaf crops, the raw material for cocaine. Another five lives were lost in the car bomb blast, which also injured more than 30 people. President Gustavo Petro initially blamed the Gulf Clan drug cartel but later pointed to FARC dissidents as key perpetrators. The violence underscores Colombia’s deepening security crisis as drug cartels and rebel remnants escalate attacks. The United Nations recently reported coca cultivation reached record highs, fueling tensions across the country.

At least 17 people killed in car bomb and separate helicopter attack in Colombia
Colombian President Gustavo Petro attributed both attacks to dissidents of the defunct Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, commonly known as FARC, adding that an alleged member of the group was arrested in the area of the helicopter explosion.
