Kim M. Janey is an American politician who is currently serving as the City Council President and Acting Mayor of Boston. She is the first woman and first black person to serve as mayor of the city. She has been a member of the Boston City Council since January 2018, representing District 7, and was selected as president of the Council in January 2020. She is a member of the Democratic Party. Janey became Boston's acting mayor upon Marty Walsh's departure from the post when he was confirmed as the United States Secretary of Labor. Janey is running for a full term in the 2021 Boston mayoral election.
