Veerappan: Indian bandit who was charged allegedly for sandalwood smuggling
Koose Munisamy Veerappan (18 January 1952 – 18 October 2004) was an Indian bandit (dacoit) who was active for 36 years, kidnapping major politicians for ransom. He was charged with sandalwood smuggling in the scrub lands and forests in the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala. His long career and ability to evade police led him to be regarded as a Robin Hood figure to many.
