People queue up at RBI offices to exchange Rs 2,000 notes

As banks have stopped accepting Rs 2,000 notes, people are now queuing up at 19 Reserve Bank of India (RBI) offices to exchange the high denomination currency. The RBI had announced its intention to withdraw the Rs 2,000 note in May, and the deadline for exchanging or depositing the notes was initially set for September 30 but later extended to October 7. As of last Friday, Rs 3.43 lakh crore worth of Rs 2,000 notes have been returned, while Rs 12,000 crore are still in circulation.
