China investigates former top bank official for suspected corruption

Zhang Hongli, a top official at a major state-owned bank in China, is being investigated for suspected corruption, according to the ruling Communist Party. Zhang, who previously served as the vice chief of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), is the latest finance official to come under scrutiny for corruption allegations. Chinese President Xi Jinping has been leading a campaign against corruption since taking office, which has been praised for promoting clean governance but criticized for potentially targeting political rivals.
