High Court orders tax refund of over Rs 1k crore to Voda Idea

IndiaTimes Wednesday, 8 November 2023
The Bombay High Court has directed the Indian tax authorities to refund Vodafone Idea Rs 1,128 crore in taxes paid in 2016-17. The court deemed the assessment order against the telecom major "unsustainable and time-barred". The court also recommended an inquiry against the assessing officer for "failure to abide by the legal mandate". Vodafone Idea had contested that the officer had failed to pass the final order within the prescribed period. The court directed the refund process to be completed within 30 days.
